WHAT IS IT?
For those of you who have been living under a rock your whole life, here’s everything you need to know about Super Bowl XLVIII. The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL). In this year’s big game, Super Bowl XLVIII, the Denver Broncos will take on the Seattle Seahawks. The Super Bowl is watched by more television viewers than almost any other event in the world, and certainly in the U.S. (2012’s Super Bowl XLVI holds the record for total number of U.S. viewers, attracting an average U.S. audience of over 111 million, making it the most-viewed television broadcast of any kind in American history.) Because of this, commercials for the Super Bowl are the most expensive of any televised event. This year’s price tag is estimated at over $4 million for a 30-second spot, or $134,000 per second. The game is also famous for its elaborate halftime shows, and this year’s show will feature rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers and pop star Bruno Mars.
WHEN IS IT?
The game kicks off this coming Sunday, Feb. 2, at MetLife Stadium, at the Meadowlands Sports Complex, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It’s the first time the Super Bowl has taken place in the New York City Metro Area since 1962 and the first Super Bowl held at an open-air stadium in a “cold-weather” city.
SPEAKING OF COLD WEATHER...
Won’t those football players freeze their padded butts off? Actually, no. As bitterly cold as it’s been lately, Sunday’s forecast for East Rutherford predicts a relatively balmy high of 37. Not warm by any means, but certainly warmer than it has been for the last few weeks.
HOW CAN I SEE THE GAME?
If you’re willing to drop 1,500 bucks and up, you can buy tickets online by clicking here. In fact, ticket prices are reportedly dropping (though still not cheap, by any means.) But the cheapest and easiest way to watch the Super Bowl is to tune in to Fox at 6:30 PM.
